Final Notice 0.3.0 - Deckbuilder Complete (im cooked.)

It's the big one!

Anyone with a keen eye might’ve spotted the new teaser gif of the deckbuilder on the game page earlier. If that was you - good eye. If this is your first time here: welcome. If it’s not your first time and you missed the gif...

😔

Anyway, time to discuss the big big update.

New Addition: Deckbuilding!

You can now, using the “Card Index” (previously “Codex”) tab on the main menu, construct, save and play with your own custom decks using any of the cards available to you in the game. The deckbuilder will of course get updated with any new cards as they get added and supports quite the list of decks! Don’t tell me about my bugs, I don’t want to hear it!

(I’m kidding. Please report bugs through the comments or feedback form here.)

You can rename your decks, alter them, see how many cards are contained in them and delete them as you wish. Post your built decks! I’d love to see what you come up with! I promise I definitely won’t use your decks to build horrifying boss AI. Definitely not. Wouldn’t dream of it.

Changed Presets: Enforcer, Bellringer and Auditor

With the new additions, Enforcer and Auditor have been buffed upwards and Bellringer has been toned down a little bit. Auditor was one of our older decks, made right in the first week and a half (!) of the game being created. It hadn’t changed too much, so I gave it a fresh coat of paint.

A certain Chilean college playtester and their class had noted that Enforcer was comedically poo compared to the other options on the table, despite having received a few buffs prior, so I've buffed 'em again. Enjoy tutoring, copying and spamming Soul Chain, Frenzy Protocol and dealing a fat stack of 50 mortis on a detonation blast.

Bellringer, yet again, was noted to be extra strong, so it’s been, yet again, toned down a little to try to stop how well it can draw into more of its own synergy piles by reducing the card draw on the tolls. These cards have been such a devious little set of gremlins I’ve opted to not give them card art yet. Peh. Speaking of...

Base Set Card Arts!

All the cards from the current set - except you, Tolls - have been given recognisable placeholders. I want to stress again, these are certifiably PLACEHOLDERED until I manage to get the funds together to start replacing them with artist-made work. These are photobashed, slapped together, probably AI-generated somewhere in this mess, placeholders solely meant to help the player recognise the card and sell the vibe of the game. I don’t particularly want to keep these in here forever.

But I do want people to understand the card at a glance, rather than having to hover over every card to remind yourself what it does. I'll be honest, I think it's a bigger pain the butt to have to keep doing all the photoshop work on each card than it would be taking an extra few hours at my job to pay for the art. Ouuuugh I hate doin' art mannnn.

New Card Added! Box of Demise.

Box of Demise - Only playable as the last card in hand - Draw 5 cards, banish this card.

The intent is to give decks that love to sell their whole hand a way to redraw into some bombs. I can see this being a staple in quite a few deckbuilds to reload the hand after a cashout and keep chugging.

Let the hand go. You’ll draw more. Probably.

Future Plans

As we’re into the end of the 0.2.x cycle, so begins 0.3.x.

I won’t spoil too much of what’s ahead, but I will spoil what the 0.3.5 update and the 0.4.0 update are, so you know what to expect of the upcoming primary patches. In 0.3.5, 2 new adjectives and a new domain, fully kitted out with cards, will be added to the boss pool, with brand new mechanics for each and player cards that play into those mechanics. It’s still undecided what the domain is just yet, but I’ve got a few ideas sittin’ in the old dome. We’ll see which one I run with.

0.4.0 will introduce the Bounties update, where you’ll be able to play into scripted, genuinely difficult boss fights, with myths and deities from the real world, that provide rewards to the player on completion, as well as some bragging rights. Be prepared for these - they will not be fair.

With all this, I can’t thank everyone who reads through this enough for doing so. The game’s had some good growth and I hope to keep it rolling.

Till next time!
